Durr Gives Back

What a difference a day makes!

Durr Estates was looking to give back to the community and with so many NGO’s to consider, it was  Sisanda Fundaytion that got their attention.

Their mission is to offer disadvantaged and vulnerable children the opportunity to experience a day of joy, fun and freedom. They believe – and Durr Estates agrees – that it is the right of every child to be able to fully experience at least one day of being a kid in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Cape Town.

Durr Estates sponsored the day and offered their time and energy as volunteers,  spending a fun-filled day with a group of disadvantaged kids from two townships.

The volunteers from Durr Estates were responsible for a group of four kids each. The day started with an educational trip to the District Six museum, a delicious 2 course meal from Spur, followed by yet another educational visit  to the aquarium at the V&A Waterfront.

At the end of the day, before sending the kids on their journey home, they were given exiting lucky packets containing sweets,  jewellery and sunglasses.
The foundation was committed to ensuring that the volunteers from Durr Estates always felt comfortable and confident with their roles. They took care to introduce the Durr Estates volunteers to the kids’ context and environment, and in so doing raised their awareness of the challenges faced by these kids and the community support structures that are already in place.

Durr Estates was fortunate enough to be able to sponsor the day and give the volunteers the opportunity to come back from this day feeling fulfilled and of course having had a lot of FUN!

The 18th of July will mark Sisanda’s biggest event yet! In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s birthday, they are taking 123 kids from the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation’s clinic in Guguletu and the Kidzpositive Family Fund at Groote Schuur to Ratanga Junction for rides, entertainment and general fun. The high entry fees for Ratanga Theme Park are prohibitive for these children, and most of them would never get the opportunity to enjoy the 30 thrilling attractions on offer.

Atlantic Seaboard in 1 Day

On the plane back from Johannesburg I looked out the window as we were approaching the landing strip, and took in the Atlantic Seaboard view of Lions Head and Table Mountain. What a great feeling it is to live in the most beautiful city on earth.

I am a self confessed property addict and this is my one day on the Atlantic Seaboard.
